With 12 interventions under their belt, ERA-BE’s Team 4 can look back on a particularly intense and rewarding week. Once again, our volunteers were on standby day and night to reinforce the local emergency services on the ground: from seven wildfires and four medical ambulance interventions to a crucial logistical support mission.
The absolute highlight of the week was a major wildfire in Paredes de Coura itself. The fire spread rapidly, resulting the Paredes de Coura fire brigade and our entire team to be called out to fight the flames alongside several neighbouring brigades. It was a textbook example of boundless cooperation. The seamless coordination with the local fire brigade and the mutual professional respect really made all the difference on the ground at that critical moment.
The fact that we can work shoulder to shoulder in such challenging situations proves, day in, day out, the social and operational added value of our presence. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to our Portuguese partners for their trust and the excellent cooperation we have enjoyed on the ground.
