Recently, a team of five ERA-BE members took part in an operational test week in Paredes de Coura, Portugal. The aim of the week was to test and further refine our operational readiness, procedures and cooperation with the local emergency services in a practical setting.

During the week, our volunteers were fully integrated into the operations of the local fire service. This collaboration resulted in a wide range of operational experiences. Our team was deployed to various incidents, including a serious road traffic accident, a container fire, a technical rescue of a person from a well and a major outdoor fire. In addition, our members were also involved in operational tasks, such as water deliveries using the tanker.

This trial week provided a unique opportunity to gain experience in a different operational environment and to exchange knowledge and expertise with our Portuguese colleagues. At the same time, it confirmed the added value of international cooperation between emergency services.

ERA-BE would like to thank the Paredes de Coura Fire Brigade for their trust, professional cooperation and warm welcome. We would also like to thank the municipality of Paredes de Coura for its logistical support. Following this trial week, we can confirm that ERA-BE is ready for the summer; from July until the end of September, our teams will be providing assistance in Portugal.
