On October 13, ERA-BE was invited to participate in an exclusive international gathering in London: the DG-HUB Policy Breakfast Workshop, centered around the theme “From Evidence to Action – Strengthening Disaster Governance and Resilience Beyond 2030.”
Hosted at Impact Hub Euston, the workshop brought together leading academics, policymakers, and field experts to discuss the future of global disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation, and community resilience.
Why ERA-BE Was at the Table
The event was organized by key institutions including Aston University, FPC, Bond, and the ESRC, featuring a passionate keynote address by Dr. Komal Raj Aryal.
As an organization with hands-on, operational experience in wildland firefighting across Europe (such as our annual summer deployments in Portugal), ERA-BE brought the hard reality of ground-level operations directly into the academic and policy conversation.
"For ERA-BE, it is essential that policy decisions made at national and European levels are grounded in real operational experience. Scientific insights and boots-on-the-ground readiness must go hand in hand."
Key Outcomes & Looking Ahead
Our participation in London was not only inspiring but also highly strategic for the future of our organization:
* Recognition as a Trusted Field Partner: ERA-BE was explicitly recognized by international stakeholders as a reliable, professional operational actor in wildfire response and disaster management.
* Expanding High-Level Networks: Valuable connections were established and strengthened with leading humanitarian and development networks, including BOND and the Overseas Development Institute (ODI).
* Long-Term Strategic Partnerships: The discussions paved the way for potential long-term consortium partnerships and future involvement in multi-year international disaster governance projects.
Grounded in Practice, Focused on the Future
Whether it’s tackling wildfires on the terrain in Portugal or shaping future policy in London, ERA-BE remains dedicated to building a safer, more resilient world. We extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Komal Raj Aryal and all organizing partners for the invitation and the inspiring exchanges!
