Following a series of intense weeks, week 5 was relatively quieter for our teams in Portugal. Nevertheless, our staff remained on constant standby and responded several times throughout the week to various emergency calls in the region.

Although the overall pressure eased somewhat during the week, the team’s readiness was put to the test once again at the last minute. On Friday evening — the eve before the planned return journey — the team was called out to a serious and rapidly spreading wildfire in Valença. Our volunteers were on site to support the local fire brigades in fighting the blaze, which enabled the situation to be brought under control.

After completing the work in Valença and preparing the equipment for the journey, the team set off on their return journey to Belgium on Saturday. We look back on a week in which the flexibility and dedication of our volunteers made all the difference right up to the very last moment.
